What I do at Broward Health:As the Director of Broward Health's Research Institute, I work under the direction of Andrew Ta, M.D., Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, to execute the various research programs in our hospitals and clinics. Broward Health provides cutting-edge clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies to its patient population. The research teams are comprised of senior research nurses, research associates, investigators, and research pharmacists, as well as interdisciplinary team support so we can perform clinical research at all of our hospitals and clinics. Many of our team members are certified by national research organizations, such as SoCRA or ACRP. We are proud to participate in research to improve the effectiveness of patient care through evidence-based medicine. Our research portfolio includes studies sponsored by Pharmaceutical companies, National Institutes of Health, Foundations, and Investigator-Initiated studies.
Describe the moment you knew you wanted to be a scientist: I fell in love with research when I was in graduate school and never looked back.
What motivates me to come to work each day: Through research, we help find new and better treatments for disease prevention and management for our patient populations.
Some advice I’d give to a new employee just starting his/her career in healthcare research: A career in research can be very rewarding, especially when you see the results of a clinical trial or investigator initiated study help improve a disease outcome in human beings.
What do you find most fascinating about the research you do? There is always a new study and a new way to look at existing diseases. I enjoy learning a new study design and potential
treatment option to improve disease outcomes.
What I’m most proud of personally or professionally: I am proud of the work I have done over the course of my career and the research we do here at Broward Health.
