The Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center offers one of the most comprehensive pediatric hematology oncology programs in South Florida, including inpatient and outpatient care and infusion services.
The Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group – the world’s largest organization devoted to childhood cancer research. This allows us to enroll our cancer patients in nearly 100 active clinical-trial studies of the most promising and newest cancer treatments.
The care provided focuses on the unique needs of each patient and their families and is delivered in a compassionate, healing environment.

Hector Rodriguez-Cortes, MD
Medical Director, Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program
Principal Investigator, Children’s Oncology Group
Hector Rodriguez-Cortes, MD, is board certified in both pediatric hematology oncology and pediatric palliative care at Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Rodriguez-Cortes earned his medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He completed a pediatric internship and pediatric residency at University Pediatric Hospital, University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He completed a pediatric hematology oncology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. Dr. Rodriguez-Cortes is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology. Dr. Rodriguez-Cortes is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Alejandro Cambara, MD
Alejandro Cambara, MD, is a pediatric hematologist oncologist at Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital. Dr. Cambara is board certified in both pediatric medicine and pediatric hematology oncology.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Havana. He completed his pediatric residency and his pediatric hematology oncology fellowship at University Pediatric Hospital, University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.
Dr. Cambara is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology. Dr. Cambara is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Angelica Garzon, MD
Angelica Garzon, MD, is a board eligible pediatric hematologist oncologist at Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital.
She is a board certified pediatrician who received her medical degree from Ross University in Dominica. She completed residencies in pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Children’s Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, as well as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Medical Center where she served as chief pediatric resident. Dr. Garzon completed her fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
She has also conducted research at New York Blood Center’s Laboratory of Platelet Biology where she studied microRNA of terminal megakaryocytopoiesis.
Dr. Garzon is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Children’s Oncology Group and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology. Dr. Garzon is fluent in both English and Spanish.

For more than 80 years, the Children’s Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center has remained committed to offering newborns, neonates, children and adolescents the most advanced, family-centered care. At Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital, our experienced team of board-certified pediatric specialists and specially trained nurses offer the full spectrum of pediatric care and are dedicated to serving the individual needs of children and their families.
Our services include a Level I pediatric trauma and emergency services, Level II & III neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care, pediatric medical surgical, pediatric orthopedics/sports medicine, comprehensive pediatric nutritional support program to address various nutritional needs, child life program with music, dance and art therapy, and one of the largest pediatric childhood cancer, blood disorders and sickle cell programs in in South Florida. We also offer pediatric sedation unit, pediatric palliative care, pediatric rehabilitation and an outpatient infusion center.
The Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital completed a $52 million patient/family-centered care renovation and expansion to enhance our clinical services and provide comfort for our young patients and their loved ones.
The upgrades included state-of-the-art treatment rooms, a nutrition pantry open to families, 12 Pediatric Hematology Oncology private rooms featuring a private restroom with full shower and couches with trundle mattresses to accommodate additional visitors.
