Vascular care focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions that affect your arteries, veins and blood flow. Common vascular conditions include poor circulation, blood clots, aneurysms and vein disorders.

Broward Health’s vascular specialists diagnose and treat these conditions with personalized care throughout Broward County. Treatment may include lifestyle changes, medication, minimally invasive procedures or surgery to improve circulation and reduce the risk of complications.

Vascular conditions can cause symptoms such as leg pain, swelling, numbness or changes in skin color. These symptoms may indicate problems with blood flow in your arteries or veins.

• Leg pain or cramping while walking that improves with rest
• Aching, heaviness or swelling in a leg
• Numbness, tingling or weakness in an arm, hand, leg or foot
• A hand or foot that feels colder than the other
• Changes in skin color or texture
• Wounds on the legs or feet that heal slowly or do not heal
• Bulging veins or discomfort around a vein
• Sudden pain, swelling, warmth or redness in one leg

Emergency Vascular Symptoms

Call 911 if you experience sudden chest pain or shortness of breath. Seek immediate medical care if an arm or leg suddenly becomes severely painful, pale, cold, numb or difficult to move.

Broward Health offers a range of treatments to improve blood flow, repair damaged blood vessels and manage vein conditions. Your care team will recommend an approach based on your needs.

• Improving Blood Flow - Our specialists can open blocked or narrowed arteries using small balloons or tubes called stents. Other treatments remove plaque or create a new path for blood to flow around a blockage.
• Aneurysm Repair - An aneurysm is a weak or bulging area in a blood vessel. Our team treats aneurysms with open surgery or minimally invasive procedures that repair the blood vessel from the inside.
• Carotid Artery Care - The carotid arteries carry blood to your brain. Treatments such as plaque removal, stenting and transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) can improve blood flow and reduce the risk of stroke.
• Blood Clot Treatment - Treatment may include medication to break up a clot, a procedure to remove it or a filter to help prevent clots from reaching the lungs.
• Vein Treatments - Our specialists treat varicose veins, spider veins and other vein problems with procedures that close damaged veins, improve blood flow or reduce the appearance of visible veins.
• Dialysis Access - Our team creates and maintains access points in the blood vessels for patients who need dialysis.
